Catherine's Wheel
For many years already, Catherine's Wheel refers to a machine that is well described by Bird > Shoulder Stand > Reverse Back Bird > Reverse Foot-to-Hand > Bird.
Lux told me about the history of the name for this machine being "Petite Reverse Catherine’s Wheel". The shorter name used to refer to a machine with Reverse Bird, Back Bird, Foot-to-Hand (and with a pop). The older Wheel can be found performed in a video from 2010). Here, I refer to the machine with the Shoulder Stand.
The name Catherine's Wheel can refer to a torture and execution device or to a spinning firework, both referring to Saint Catherine of Alexandria.
The machine is one of the most accessible machines with an inversion (in this case, Shoulder Stand) and is a good way to introduce the Reverse Foot-to-Hand pose.
The Catherine's Wheel has a Rewind, Reverse and Rewind Reverse, which I refer to as the Catherine's Wheel set. What I refer to as Rewind Reverse Catherine's Wheel is often done although unfortunately it is widely referred as the Reverse Catherine's Wheel in the community.
A video with Alex:
It is a machine I have adaped for using as a group machine in an assembly line:
A version using just 1-Base-Leg version:
As Catherine's Wheel is a relatively acessible classic, I often base it.
